Tutoring Services 101
Author: Janice Andersen
Tutoring services are designed to offer you a selection of tutoring experts who have a special range of knowledge and tutoring skills. When using a tutoring service you can take comfort in the knowledge that the people employed by these services have been prescreened for you. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about your child working with a tutor who is not qualified to work with the learning challenges that your child has.
Advantages of Tutoring Services
There are several advantages of using a tutoring service. The first advantage is that you get to select from a variety of tutors. Instead of having to interview dozens of tutors on your own, you can simply walk into a tutoring service and ask to work with a tutor who has experience working with specific learning disabilities or subjects. The second advantage is that the tutors have been prescreened for you. Their criminal backgrounds have been checked as has their professional background. Because of this, you know exactly what you are getting.
Signing Up for Tutoring Services
If you have found a tutoring service that you are interested in using, then your next step is to sign up for tutoring services. To do this you will generally need to fill out an intake form. This form includes your contact information, information about the student and your payment information. After filling out the intake form you may also need to complete an interview process. During the interview the intake person will ask you about your child’s learning goals, what they are having troubles with and if they have any learning disabilities or physical disabilities that need to be worked around. After all the information is taken in and processed you can schedule your tutoring sessions.
Finding the Right Schedule for Your Kids
Tutoring sessions need to be scheduled so that they produce the best results. Generally, this means that you will want to schedule your tutoring sessions when your kids are not tired, hungry or ready to go somewhere else. Schedule can be tricky because there are a limited number of time slots available. However, do your best to work around your kids’ biorhythms.
The Cost of Tutoring Services
Paying for tutoring services can be expensive. However, if you can’t afford $15 to $20 a hour for tutoring and your child has a learning disability, then you may be able to qualify for free tutoring services. If your child has an IEP team, see if the school district will provide your child with tutoring services. If you have a limited income and your child has a learning disability, then you may be able to qualify for grants that will pay for your tutoring services or for free tutoring services.
Tutoring services, including home tutoring and online tutoring can greatly benefit your children. However, you need to learn how to select the right type and frequency of tutoring for your child\'s needs. |
