How to Get Tickets to Almost Anything

Author: Carson Danfield

Don't believe it when you see the "Sold Out" sign. In fact, there is hardly a game, concert, show or any other event to which tickets aren't available.

How to get them...

- Join a fan club. Members often get first crack at tickets for a wide range of performances. Today, most fan clubs are Web-based.
Cost: $10 to $40 a year.* Advance ticket offers generally become available as soon as you join.

Example: The Barry Manilow International Fan Club (www.barrymanilowcom) offers members first access to tickets for tours. Membership fee: $10 per year.

Other performers, such as John Mellencamp (www.c1ubcherrybomb.net, $30 for a year), reserve a limited number of seats near the stage for fan club members. Some fan clubs also have phone numbers that members can call for lastminute tickets. To find a fan club, enter the performer's name and fan club into the search box at the top of this page. As an example, if you're a fan of Elton John, just search for Elton John fan club

- Contact sponsors of events. Most sporting events, including play-off games, are sponsored by major corporations that make tickets available to customers and suppliers. Individual teams often have business partners that do the same.

Examples: Business partners of the Miami Dolphins football team include DHL, Publix, Verizon and Wachovia. Major theatrical productions, including many at New York's Radio City Music Hall, also have corporate sponsors.

If you're lucky enough to know an executive of a sponsoring company, ask him/her to help you buy tickets. Or ask if your own employer does business with a sponsor that may be able to help you.
